Jack's head is somewhat flat and assymetrical in the back so we took him to see a pediatric plastic surgeon. He prescribed a Doc Band. These are custom made foam helmets that help reshape babies' heads. The band does NOT push on his head to change the shape, but rather has gaps inside the helmet where the head can (and should) grow. The areas that are snug resist growth, therefore, since babies heads grow at such a rapid rate, the head is encouraged to grow in the direction we want so that he ends up with a nice, round, symmetical head.Factory Original
Doc Bands are all white. Some people put stickers on them or try and paint them themselves. We took Jack's to a baseball helmet & motorcycle airbrush artist in Humble to have it painted like a Texans helmet. Now, instead of people saying, "Oh, poor little boy what is wrong with his head?", they say "What a cool helmet! Is he going for a bike ride, or does he have a game?"The Casting Process

In order to make the Doc Band, Jack's head had to be casted. The whole process took about 10 minutes from beginning to end. A sock-like hat was pulled over his head and eyes and a hole was cut for his mouth and nose. Most babies, we were told, completely freak out but Jack was a champ and only fussed minimally. He will have to wear the band 23 hours per day for about 3 months.
